Philosophy

We believe in an educational philosophy that is grounded in integrated experiential learning through structured academic programs with associated reflection. We believe in a learning-by-doing educational philosophy. We believe is teaching and learning that produces leaders to serve as stewards of sustainable community development.

African University will furnish an integrated experiential education which seeks to assist all involved in the learning process to integrate intellectual achievement, ethical, cultural, and emotional sensitivities with responsible conduct which are central to competent, benevolent, and confident leadership in society. The integrated curriculum offered at African University will address the social, emotional, and cognitive growth of the learner. The undergraduate curriculum will be student-centered, structured, and will furnish the student with a sound academic foundation for talent development. To promote the growth and development of the student, the education offered at African University will be enriching, meaningful and challenging.



A core curriculum will be offered during the first two years of undergraduate studies in the University College. By way of lectures, seminars, small group discussions, and independent study, students and faculty would examine issues related to African and human nature. The core curriculum would allow learners to critically examine and construct education to something that closely resembles real life.

Internships shall be included as an integral component of the specialized study program of students. Students would be expected to spend an appropriate amount of time, as set by an academic program, in intensive practical training. These practical sessions are helpful for students to sharpen their skills in the areas of their specialization.


International Education: African University shall be an international institution of higher education. It shall attract students from across Cameroon, Africa and around the world. The faculty of African University shall be involved in international research and educational activities.


African University shall offer undergraduate courses in leadership studies. These courses provide students with the knowledge, skills and commitment to take on the moral responsibilities of leadership as service to society. With leadership as their unifying theme, typical courses integrate research, theory and practice to help students understand the ways in which leadership is exercised and how it succeeds and fails in such disparate areas as government, business, community life, the arts and social movements. This course of study shall be highly interactive, rigorous, experiential and innovative. Students shall share responsibilities in research, teaching, and service on school committees.


African University shall be an international institution of higher education. It shall attract students from across Cameroon, Africa and around the world. The faculty of African University shall be involved in international research and educational activities.


Teaching and Learning

Excellence in teaching and student learning inside and outside the classroom shall be promoted at African University. African University shall promote the effective transmission of knowledge and the love of learning by faculty and students. Exemplary teaching emphasizes the significance of what is being taught and learned. It transmits significant information and concepts as well as fosters the development of the skill of application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation in learners. At African University, faculty shall teach using methods that promote the ability of students to not only learn, but also to ask good questions, solve problems and commit to life-long learning.


Creativity and Development

Research, scholarship and development initiatives of African University shall focus on areas of significant societal need. African University shall provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate student research from formulating research questions, to designing experiments, to data analyses and interpretation. These opportunities will promote meaningful interaction between students and faculty. Students would be expected to present their research at an annual research conference sponsored by African University. The research conference shall provide an opportunity for students to disseminate their results and gain experience in presenting their research. The proceedings of the annual conference shall be published by African University.


Creativity defined broadly, but with rigor, to reflect the diversity of faculty effort. For example, scholarship will be one expression of creative activities and a critical measure of faculty productivity at African University. African University will create multiple avenues to publish the rich and diverse creative works of its faculty. Peer review will be the mechanism to enhance quality in the works that are published
